Markham Modifies City Services to Support Breaking the Chain of Transmission of COVID-19
MARKHAM, ON — March 19, 2020 — Markham Modifies City Services to Support Breaking the Chain of Transmission of COVID-19
The City of Markham is committed to the health and safety of its employees and the Markham community. We are working closely with our Public Health colleagues at the regional, provincial and national levels concerning the evolving novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.
Markham’s Emergency Operations Centre has been activated to coordinate our efforts in response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation.
In order to do our part to help break the chain of transmission of COVID-19 in our community and protect our seniors and vulnerable populations, the City has modified some of its services.
While we expect there will be some inconveniences during this rapidly evolving situation, we are doing everything we can to limit service disruptions. All services that protect the health and safety of our residents will be maintained.
To help break the chain of transmission of the virus the City has modified its delivery of some City services including:
All of Markham’s City facilities are closed to the public.
All programs and drop-ins – including this week’s March Break camps – will be suspended until April 5 and refunds will be issued.
All in-person public meetings have been cancelled up to April 5.
All City-produced and permitted events have been cancelled through May 15, and will be rescheduled, as appropriate.
Clerk’s department services including Wedding applications, Business License applications and Deputation forms have been suspended until April 5.
Burial permits will continue to be issued by appointment only.
Curbside organic, garbage and recycling collection will continue according to the 2020 Collection Schedule.
Collection of leaf and yard material has been delayed, and is now scheduled to begin on May 19.
City Tax and Financial Services including Cash Counters are closed to the public. The public is encouraged to use eProperty Tax online services to complete their transaction or at their financial institution.
Complete City service information and updates are available online at markham.ca/covid19.
Although the delivery of some services have been modified our elected officials and staff are still hard at work, and will continue to provide exceptional services to our community.
Our Contact Centre continues operation via email and telephone. Contact us at 905.477.5530 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to our healthcare workers who are devoting countless hours to combating COVID-19.
Together we will do our part to help break the chain of transmission of COVID-19 in our community and protect our seniors and vulnerable populations.
