The Markham Royals collected 3 of a possible 4 points in a weekend home-set against the Aurora Tigers and Oakville Blades.

The Royals faced the Tigers on Friday night in a game that saw Markham get on the scoreboard early and the shot clock often, very often. The Royals had 10 shots in the game before Aurora even registered their first, eventually racking up a total of 58 shots on Brayden Lechance who started in the Tigers goal. The Royals had 5 different goal scores on the score sheet: Josh Hardiman, Lucas Condotta, Sam Hu, Rylee St. Onge and Doug Carter tallied while Eric Holland scored all three goals for the Tigers for the hat-trick.

On Sunday the Royals welcomed the Oakville Blades to the Markham Centennial centre looking for their 5th straight win to start the season, while the Blades were playing their final game of a 3-in-3 weekend. Markham got off to a quick start once again with Rylee St. Onge scoring his 4th of the season just 1:18 into the opening period. Laine McKay added two goals in the 3rd period to give the Royals a 3-1 lead, before a power play goal from Chris Brill-Morgan and a game-tying goal from Ryan Foss knotted the game at 3s and sent the Royals to their first overtime game of the season. After no one scored in the 4-on-4 overtime period, both teams iced a speedy trio of players during the 3-on-3 overtime. That speed worked for Oakville as Brayden Sampson tipped home a pass on a 2-on-1 rush and completed the comeback for Oakville, ending Markham’s 4 game winning streak. Marcus Semaio made 34 saves for Markham, while Chris Elliot stopped 48 of 51 shots fired by the Royals.

The Royals will head to the Governors Showcase in Buffalo as the leaders of the North Division after this weekend set. They will face the Georgetown Raider and Mississauga Chargers at the Showcase, before coming back home for a date with their rivals the Stouffville Spirit on Friday Sept 30 at the Markham Centennial Arena.
